It's like opening a mini recycling centre right in your community! As Nick shared, schools, universities, and even local businesses have jumped on board, collecting everything from toothbrushes to coffee pods. Imagine the impact we could make if every neighbourhood had a TerraCycle drop-off point!?! A: If you want more pollinators in your garden you've got to put what they need in your garden. What exactly is that? Peter Cooley, founder of @indigigrow, recently shared with us in our @ HOME Program (here is a short snippet from the session) that you need a range of bright-coloured plants with sweet scents to attract more pollinators into your garden. Ever stood under a steaming hot shower, belting out your favourite tune, and thought, "Wow, I'm really making a difference in the world!"? Well, maybe not. But guess what? You totally can! @thejotaranto, our founder and resident "water nerd," explained in a recent webinar, our showers use a lot of water and energy. In fact, heating that water can gobble up a whopping 25% of your electricity bill! Ouch. Which is why... it's important to know how much water your showerhead is using per minute as it can help you determine how efficient it is. If you want to work this out at home grab a 9 litre water bucket, turn your shower on to the normal pressure you would shower with and time how long it takes for your bucket to fill up. Then, you want to use the following equation (60 divided by the time it took to fill your bucket) x 9L = L/minute (Flow rate of your shower). Pop your answer below and we'll share with you how efficient your showerhead is from zero stars (very inefficient) to 5 stars (very efficient). #savingwater #sustainabilitysuperstars #showerhead #waterefficiency

Yes, eco-anxiety does exist, it's a very real and growing concern. We had Dr. Blanche Verlie, a brilliant Lecturer and Social Scientist in our @ HOME Program earlier this year to talk about this topic and share her insights around how we experience and respond to climate change. Dr. Verlie pointed out that eco-anxiety is a complex feeling that can stem from: - Direct experience: Personally witnessing environmental degradation or extreme weather events. - Vicarious experience: Seeing these events unfold in the news or hearing about them from others. - Anticipation of future events: Worrying about what the future holds for us and our planet. However, the good news is, that your anxiety can actually be a catalyst for change as it can be a powerful motivator to take action. If you experience eco-anxiety, we see you, hear you and understand! A little slice from a coaching session today… A wonderful client has a new role which requires her to assert herself in new ways. It’s stressful and she needs to gain a group’s respect…and fast. She went on to explain that she knows she needs to elevate her communication style to do this but during the meeting she gets sidetracked and overwhelmed. With no clear before-meeting-routine, this woman was going from an intense caring role, into traffic and into this stressful scenario. And 👏that’s 👏 a 👏 lot 👏 No wonder adding additional demands on her to convey confidence and a level of authority was feeling overwhelming. So now she has this tip and you do too. When you next have a communciation engagement which is either new or pushing your skills beyond their comfort zone, then you need a green room. A green room is the waiting room for performers before they go on stage. And it’s there for a good reason: performers need a safe and centred space to prepare themselves to deliver extraordinary things. You are no different. When something is new, even if it’s not Shakespeare, it’s a performance. We need to practice it before we can master it. So use the car, a toilet cubicle or a quiet room to centre yourself before you enter your next meeting, workshop, conference presentation or interview. The more nervous you are, the more important this is. Give yourself a chance to practice 5 minutes of box breathing with your eyes closed and do your best to clear your mind. We all do it. We all assume communication is hard. That what we are trying to do is so hard and that’s why people don’t do it. Everyone assumes speaking and sharing solutions is difficult. When really it is just a set of powerful skills and insights that anyone can learn. If you see someone sharing their big idea, there amazing sustainability product or the big issue that deserves our attention and think “I could do that”. You’re right, you absolutely could. Tag someone who needs to hear this.

STOP beating yourself up. You won’t grow if you lose your confidence. Great communicators keep going. Instead, start: 1. A hype folder 2. Recording actionable improvements 3. Get constructive feedback None of that means beating yourself up. All of that means looking to the next opportunity. Now go do it 👋❤️

Tag someone who loves to talk! Does your voice sound weird after a big workshop? Feeling like you are holding your neck and drinking lots of water? Speaking involves muscles and like any muscle they require training to be their best and rest after a workout. Vocal rest is important for maintaining our vocal health, especially if you’ve start experiencing strain or fatigue. It involves avoiding talking, singing, and whispering to allow our vocal cords to rest and recover. If you are finding you have: 1. Hoarseness, roughness, or vocal fatigue 2. Difficulty making certain sounds or changes in your normal vocal range 3. Pain or discomfort in the throat or neck area Then this is a sign of vocal strain and you need to give yourself a break! Vocal rest is a healthy part of being a good communicator. If you’ve had a big day sharing solutions, maybe it’s time for a quiet cuppa and an episode of Vera?

Hands up if you get bored?! Here are some tips to shake things up when you need to deliver the same session over and over again: 1. Add a Different Icebreaker Activity: Start your session off with a new icebreaker to energise participants and set a positive tone. Try something fun and interactive that gets everyone involved from the start. 2. Add New Examples: Update your content with fresh impact examples that are relevant to your audience. Incorporate real-world solutions, relevant case studies, and local stories to make your sustainability content more engaging. 3. Experiment with New Formats: Try out different workshop formats to keep things interesting. Consider incorporating more group discussions, a pitch challenge or use timers, music or video to freshen tired content. 4. Incorporate Storytelling: Use storytelling techniques to make your content more memorable and engaging. It’s often easier to tell stories and more enjoyable for all. Remember they don’t have to just be your stories, but narratives that illustrate key points and resonate with your audience are always more interesting. 5. Add a Game: Introduce a game or interactive activity to break up the session and keep participants engaged. This could be using cards, adding a quiz, introducing a role-playing exercise, or a little friendly team-based competition. Try incorporating these tips into your sessions to keep things fresh and engaging for your audience! And you can say bye bye boredom. The secret to good communicators? Grit 💪🏼 It’s about having the tenacity and persistence to keep learning. To try new things and to be constantly improving your knowledge, your skills and your confidence. So if it feels hard or challenging or awkward or new, that’s actually a very good thing. In fact, that’s the entire point. If it was easy, everyone would be amazing at it. 👉🏽 Growth only comes when you are extended. 👉🏽 Confidence only comes from showing up. 👉🏽 Competence only comes from practice. We believe there’s no one secret to building a skill, but everyone who has succeeded has shown grit. Do you agree?

Good communicators are at first great listeners and they really understand their audience. 
If you understand your intended audience then you can have those heads nodding along when you are speaking. There’s no better feeling than seeing the room go ‘Ah they get me’! We recommend asking these 3 questions before you even open your mouth: 1. Who is my audience? 2. What are their pain points or challenges when it comes to ? 3. How might my insights or experiences be able to help them? We all have much more success when we listen first.
